Many people that hit the gym always want to know how to build muscle. There are many ways on how to build muscle, but right now, the focus will be on the supplement side. Supplements can play a major role as far as building muscle. But what supplement should you take? How do you take supplements help build muscle?
I like to keep things very simple. So when it comes time for me to build muscle, I just go for a few supplements, and just stick with those. Here are a few key supplements. Want to know how to build muscle with supplements? Read on 🙂
Yes…protein. Don’t go overboard on the shakes though. Try to get protein out of your meals as well. But when it comes to building muscle, I’m not talking about just any ‘ol protein. You want the best protein supplement. For muscle building purposes, get a protein supplement that has a good protein/carb ratio. A good example, especially for post-workout purposes, would be around 15 grams of protein and 35-40 grams of carbs. Getting a great combination of carbs and protein is important for your post-workout supplementation and for building muscle. You definitely don’t want to lose your muscle, which is why it’s important to restore the glycogen levels by using a quality protein that has a decent amount of carbs already in the product. I personally recommend the following. I’ve been on it before and it works great every time!
Every time I use Advocare’s Post-Workout Recovery protein, I get great results. It has a great protein/carb ratio and it’s also easy on the taste buds haha 😛 This protein also has 2 grams of creatine per serving. It also features 12 grams of protein per serving, and 38 grams of carbs per serving. And it has ZERO CHOLESTEROL! So this is definitely a protein that should not be passed up. Post-Workout Recovery is a great muscle building protein. Be sure to take a look at it today!
2. BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids)
Basically, Branched Chain Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. Supplementing with BCAA’s while using a quality protein, will amplify the results of your protein and will help to build muscle mass. A lot of people say that there’s already enough BCAA’s in whey protein to be efficient. Well I say “nay” my friend! Sure, there’s already BCAA’s in the typical whey protein supplement, but the thing is, that the BCAA’s that are already bonded with the protein digest so much slower. This is why it’s best to get a stand alone, high quality BCAA supplement to stack along with the protein. BCAA’s are anabolic, meaning that they are great for muscle growth. The most anabolic component of BCAA’s is L-Leucine. This stuff rocks! The following are two products that I recommend as far as BCAA’s and Leucine:
Product #1 is Catalyst by Advocare. This has your main components of BCAA’s (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine). It also contains glutamine for muscle recovery. Catalyst can be used for both pre and post workout supplementation. I find it best to use as soon as I wake up in the morning. Using Catalyst alongside Post-Workout Recovery can really help as far as building muscle. How do I know? Because I’ve actually taken these supplements before.
Product #2 is Arginine Extreme by Advocare. Arginine Extreme contains a key component of the BCAA’s, L-Leucine. It’s also combined with the power of L-Arginine, which is the precursor to nitric-oxide! L-Arginine supports healthy blood vessels and maximum blood flow. So if you want your veins to show off in the gym, this is a great place to start haha 😛 Combining these products will lead to great anabolic results. Ok, time to get back on track. Now for the 3rd Key supplement for building muscle. The previous two were sub-points.
Here are the main things that creatine can do for you: It can improve size and strength, promote muscular endurance, and promote muscular recovery. And these are just the basics! It’s good to take creatine before and after your workouts. If you take creatine before your weight training, there is a great chance that you will feel and be stronger in the gym. The reason why it’s great to take creatine post-workout is because it helps the muscles to recover much faster. The faster that you can recover, the faster you can grow! When you select a creatine to use, make sure it’s of high quality. I mean let’s face it…there’s lots of junk out there on the shelves. And you really do get what you pay for. I used to be a huge fan of Cell-Tech. I’m not trying to bash MuscleTech, but their supplement quality has gone down immensely. At least for me it has. Cell-Tech is just not like it used to be 🙁 But I do have something great to recommend. I’ve been on it and it works great. Mass Impact by Advocare is a high quality creatine supplement that combines the power of creatine AND L-Leucine. In my own personal experience, I did gain size and great strength with Mass Impact.
